Some argue the point, but if you do the research you will find that America was founded on Christian ideas. Not any one church or denomination, but Biblical ideas. We have wandered away from them over the years though, in part because some are trying to omit our Christian foundations from history. The public schools don’t teach it anymore, even some Christian schools don’t teach it as well as they should.
Let’s look back at true history -
When the 200+ men who founded our country were deliberating over the writing of the constitution, they sent out a handbill calling for all the people to pray for them while they worked on it. They knew that God Himself would have to give them the wisdom to do this great experiment in freedom.
Images of the Ten Commandments are engraved everywhere in our capital buildings, our state supreme court building, our congressional houses. These images do not threaten you who don’t believe - they are the foundation for a country that gives you the right to not believe.
It was a Baptist (Christian) minister that founded the state of Rhode Island. His founding principle was that while he was dedicated to God, everyone who came to Rhode Island and wished to live there was free to pursue the religion he chose, or to not pursue one at all. This was the beginning of real religious freedom - and it was begun by a religious person.
Even the Washington Monument praises God. On the eastern side of the capstone of this memorial is written “Laus Deo” or, “Praise be to God!” It is on the eastern side because that’s where the sun rises, so the first thing that the sun touches each morning in the capital city of America is a praise to the Creator. Check out this website for a little more: http://www.doyletics.com/tidbits/lausdeo.htm (I have no connection to the person who wrote the site, I just found it in my search.)
There are other proofs and evidences of our Biblical foundation, but I believe you need to some of your own research. Find out who the founders really were. You’ve heard of Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington, but have you heard of the rest? Have you heard of the fact that for years there were church services held in the Capital building, and that Jefferson was so faithful to those services each Sunday that people saved him a seat? And that there was never any ruling that stopped those services, they simply dwindled away.
All of this means that I have the right to believe, and practice, my religion - while at the same time you have the right to *not* believe, and *not* practice any religion. But you must realize that it was the Bible that gave you that freedom here in America.
But I think there’s another reason our country is wandering away and declining - because many Christians have abandoned her.
Over the last generation we have pulled ourselves out of the public schools, out of the PTA, out of politics, out of much of the secular world. When the Christians are gone, who will fill that vaccuum?
As Christians, we must vote; but I believe that as Christians we must go farther than that. Politics was never meant to be a career - it was meant to be a duty that each citizen ought to be willing to fulfill. As Christians I believe we need to start running for elected positions again. There are some out there, and those of us not in public office ought to be praying for them daily.
So do your duty - vote, pray, run.
I wrote Babel last year, but have been sitting on the idea for at least five years.

An ancient scroll, an ageless conspiracy, a mysterious stranger. When God still spoke through prophets and dreams, one person could make all the difference.
Prophecies, conspiracies, mysterious strangers and lost cities - you’ve seen it all before but never like this. This is the one that started it all.
Alone and afraid, Jaiyl knows she is the key to her family’s plan to control the world. Can she make a difference?
Living an unremarkable life in an unremarkable village, Van’s whole world is in his little valley, until the day Jaiyl rides into his life and nothing is ever the same again.
A tower exists with such potential power that God confused the languages to stop it. The Family doesn’t like that very much.
Jaiyl is all secrets and fear, Van has nothing to hide and knows nothing about fear. Thrown together they must fight for the freedom of those they love.
Her secret could doom the world. His honesty could save it.
